System Selection Guide step 1
PSTN or GSM? "On-Lift" mounted or Stationary / Central Mounted?
PSTN "ON-LIFT" MOUNTED?
GSM "ON-LIFT" MOUNTED?
GSM "STATIONARY / CENTRAL" MOUNTED?
Alarm via PSTN (the standard telephone line)
PSTN is still the most popular and conservative choice of communication form for lift alarm units. For this purpose TeleTech provides different PSTN "On-Lift" solutions for both single or multiple installations in different variations.
Alternatively alarm via GSM (the mobile telephone system) - Why?
There are a number of reasons: To the lift owner the GSM services are typically cheaper as the cost of a PSTN line. There are no installation costs and low fixed monthly cost if any. There is only the regular background call and an emergency call from time to time. In several European countries there are problems in terms of installation time for a PSTN line which is often remarkable. A GSM solution can also be used temporary to get the lift approved while waiting for a PSTN line. There are countries in Europe where lifts in new house constructions may be used in case an emergency telephone is installed. In such cases the Autodial TSA5110-GSM can be used. And finally: In certain countries in Europe the telecom companies refuse to install a PSTN line for lifts because the cost is higher than the reward. But is there enough GSM signal? Today bigger towns and capitals are well covered with GSM signals and this is where most of the lifts are installed. In other words: The potential risk of too low signal is mainly related to basement areas. The field strength is very easy to measure: Place an Autodial TSA5110-GSM at the top of the lift without installing it. Only connect the 230 VAC and the antenna. By use of a SMS one may "instruct" the Autodial to measure the field strength on different elevator levels. An SMS is sent back with numbers in a scale from 0 to 20 which represent the field strength and where the value 6 represents a minimum sufficient GSM strength.
If field strength is 6 or more, then an "On-Lift" mounted GSM solution is definitely a good choice.
If field strength is weaker than 6, then a “Stationary / Central mounted” GSM Master Unit could be a sufficient alternative.
For that purpose TeleTech provides a GSM unit model GsmMaster TSI110 to the TeleTech PSTN units. This Master can be installed almost anywhere fx. in the control room where the signal is continuously strong.
